At Handmade Rugs, we believe a wool rug should do far more than cover a floor. It should bring warmth, character and soul to a room.
Our hand-knotted rugs are made in Afghanistan, India, Pakistan and Nepal by skilled artisan weavers using hand-spun wool and natural dyes. Many months of work go into every rug, continuing weaving traditions that have been passed down through generations.

In our Rye and Alresford galleries, you will find a carefully curated collection of custom rugs in a wide range of colours, sizes and styles. Each piece is selected for its beauty, quality and craftsmanship.
We also offer custom rugs, helping you create the right rug for your room, whether you need a special size, a particular colour palette or a design made to suit your home.

Bill Hill began his career in antique rugs in 1978 at Vigo Carpet Gallery in London’s West End. Apart from a 12-month sabbatical selling rugs in both Perth and Double Bay in Australia, Bill remained with Vigo until 2001, when he founded Hill & Co.
In 2016, after many years supplying the trade, Bill returned to his retail roots with Handmade Rugs — bringing together decades of experience, a deep knowledge of handmade carpets, and a lifelong passion for colour, design, and craftsmanship.
Today, Handmade Rugs has galleries in Rye, East Sussex, and Alresford, Hampshire, offering carefully curated hand-knotted rugs from some of the world’s finest weaving traditions.
